Notes (points of interest etc.) |
“On the
same day a lad named Thomas Mark Chettle was admitted, suffering from very
severe injuries to the left arm. The lad, who is 15 years of age and employed
by Messrs. Duncan & Fraser, coachbuilders, Franklin-street, was
attempting to put the connecting-band on the flywheel of a machine when he
managed to get his left arm twisted in the belt, and he was whirled round
with the wheel. As soon as his mates saw the danger he was in they rescued
him and immediately conveyed him to the Hospital, where it was ascertained
that his arm was broken in three places.” (Adelaide Observer, 31/3, 1877, p.
11). JP (around 1912). |
