He made a statuette of NAFC legend Ken Farmer which is
in the NAFC history archive. There is a photo in the archive of Herbert
presenting Ken Farmer with the statuette. He is reported in the newspaper as saying he also made
one of King George V which he valued at
£50 (News 12 Sept. 1947) This article (Advertiser
16 July 1948 ) makes a
reference to Herbert’s grandfather having a connection to early South
Australia - "South Australian Gazette and Colonial
Register." Saturday, June 18, 1836. shows an advertisement from the SA
Agency Office, 9 Austin Friars, London, announcing that Herbert’s
grandfather, John Gliddon, had been appointed by the Commissioners agent for
the purchase of land in South Australia. He married the eldest daughter of
Leigh Hunt, the author, but never came to South Australia. |
