First head teacher of Nailsworth School when it moved to what is now the Prospect Library building in 1882.

Gave evidence to the Commission on the Working of the Education Act (SA Parliamentary Papers Nr 27).

He was a chronic invalid for five years cared for by his wife Mary Ann in Olive  Avenue.

After his death a local clergyman, Rev. W.H. Geer, organised a fund raiser for his wife to pay her bills and have money to return to her family in S.A.   £14-14-00 was raised.
