Notes
(points of interest etc.) |
The
name varies sometimes TREVAIL, sometimes TREVAILL. Even TREVAILLE, He
migrated to Canada early but seems to have returned to England before
migrating to Australia. In
1899 six allotments in Clifton St were auctioned plus one in Farrant St. He
built many houses in Clifton St and elsewhere in Prospect. After
the death of James, there was a property dispute between Christiana
TREVAIL and Catherine TURVEY (James
sister) on the one hand, and Thomas TREVAIL and Fanny Jane WILLIAMS on the
other. The legal decision is complex but it appears the children won out over
their stepmother and aunt. Catherine
Trevail married William Turvey in SA in 1879. She died in 1913 aged 85, which
suggests a birth date around 1828. UK records have a Catherine Trevail
baptised in Cornwall Christmas Day 1827. According
to James obituary (SA Register, 24-Dec-1898, p5), his married daughter was
living in England) at the time of his death. This was Fanny Jane WILLIAMS. Harriett
Hichens sister Jane Hichens married Thomas Williams. Their son Thomas Hichens
Williams, a mining engineer, married Fanny Jane Trevail in 1891 in England
(they were first cousins). They lived all over the world but they both dies
in Toronto and are buried there as Trevaill-Williams. |
