Was a
keen debater and Repertory Theatre actor and was instrumental in
the formation of the Prospect Band. Was also an elocutionist
and judged Rechabite elocution competitions. Was an
original member of the Repertory Theatre, established at the
Conservatorium by Mr. Bryceson Trehearne under the name of the Adelaide
Literary Theatre, and in 1908 won a State championship for a Shakespearean
recital. Sport-bowls.

Prospect’s first mayor in 1/7/1933 and 1949-1952 and 1953-1954. For 43 years was a Councillor (Fitzroy Ward 1922- 1932; 1937-1948) and Alderman (1948-1966). Chairman
Prospect District Council 1/7/1933. Vice-president Suburban & District Councils’
Association. In May 1945, his suggestion of re-naming Lower North Road as
Churchill Road in honour of Sir Winston Churchill was accepted by Prospect
Council. |
